Accessibility at RecruitiFi

How to use RecruitiFi with a keyboard, a screen reader, and at high zoom, plus known limitations and how to report a problem.

Written by RecruitiFi

RecruitiFi is built to be used without a mouse, with a screen reader, and at high zoom levels. This article describes what the platform supports today, where it falls short, and how to report a problem.

The platform is tested against WCAG 2.2 Level AA and the Revised Section 508 standards. An independent third party, Accessible.org, evaluated it and issued conformance reports in both editions. Those reports are linked at the end of this article.

This article covers the RecruitiFi web application used by clients and staffing partners.

Using RecruitiFi with a keyboard

Every part of the platform can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. You will not get stuck in a component: focus can always be moved back out with Tab or Shift+Tab.

Key

What it does

Tab

Move to the next control

Shift+Tab

Move to the previous control

Enter

Activate a link or button, open the focused item

Space

Toggle a checkbox, press a button, open a dropdown

Arrow keys

Move within a dropdown, menu, or set of options

Esc

Close an open menu, dialog, or panel

The focused control is always outlined so you can see where you are. RecruitiFi doesn't use single-character shortcuts, so typing in a field never accidentally triggers a command.

Pages are marked up with landmark regions, letting screen reader and keyboard users move straight to the main content, navigation, or search instead of tabbing through the header each time. No separate skip link is needed because the landmarks serve that purpose.

Sortable table columns, such as Title on the requisitions list, can be focused and activated from the keyboard. Each press cycles the column through unsorted, ascending, and descending, and the current sort state is announced.

In text fields that support formatting, such as announcements and messages, the standard shortcuts work: Cmd+B or Ctrl+B for bold, Cmd+I or Ctrl+I for italic, and Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z to undo. Each formatting control reports whether it is currently on or off.

Using RecruitiFi with a screen reader

We tested the platform with the combinations below. Other screen readers generally work, but we evaluate against these.

NVDA

Chrome

Windows 11

JAWS

VoiceOver

iOS

Each page has a unique title describing what it is, so you can tell pages apart when moving between tabs. Buttons, links, form fields, and checkboxes have names that match their visible labels, so voice control users can activate a control by saying what they see.

Form fields have labels and instructions. When something goes wrong, the error is described in text and tells you which field needs attention and what to correct.

Status messages are announced without moving your focus. Saving a requisition, applying a filter, or toggling a formatting control will be read out while you stay where you are.

Charts in the Stats views appear as images with a title and description, and each is accompanied by a data table with the same values. If a chart is not useful to you, read the table instead.

Zoom, text size, and contrast

Use Cmd+Plus or Ctrl+Plus to zoom in, Cmd+Minus or Ctrl+Minus to zoom out, and Cmd+0 or Ctrl+0 to reset.

You can enlarge text to 200% with no loss of content or function. The layout reflows up to 400% zoom, so columns stack instead of forcing you to scroll sideways to read a line.

If you apply your own text spacing through a browser extension or stylesheet, including line height, paragraph spacing, letter spacing, and word spacing, the platform stays readable, and nothing is cut off or overlapped.

Text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background, and interface elements such as borders and input outlines meet at least 3:1. Color is never the only way information is conveyed: statuses and alerts carry text or an icon as well.

The platform works in both portrait and landscape and does not lock you into one orientation.

Known limitations

The live chat window in the bottom corner of the platform is provided by Intercom, a third party. We cannot change how it is built, and two issues remain open there:

  • When the chat window is open, keyboard focus can move out of it into the page behind. If that happens, press Esc to close the chat, or keep pressing Tab until focus returns to the chat window.

  • In the emoji picker, the symbols in the Smileys & Emotion category are not grouped with their heading, so a screen reader announces them without saying which category they belong to.

If the chat window gets in your way, you can reach us by email instead using the address below. We have raised both issues with Intercom.

What was tested, and how to reach us

Accessible.org evaluated the platform against WCAG 2.2 Level AA and the Revised Section 508 standards, using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, code inspection, visual inspection, browser zoom at 200% and 400%, a color contrast analyzer, and an automated scan. The evaluation covered the permanent placement workflows: requisitions, placements, staffing vendor and team member records, finance, notifications, and account settings. This evaluation did not cover the Staff Augmentation module or the candidate-facing pages.

Two conformance reports are available:

  • Accessibility Conformance Report, WCAG 2.2 AA Edition

  • Accessibility Conformance Report, Revised Section 508 Edition

If you hit an accessibility barrier anywhere in the platform, email us and tell us what you were trying to do, the page you were on, and the assistive technology and browser you were using. We will confirm receipt and tell you what we can do and when.
